Recent Make-up Work

Helen Coupe is a make-up artist, living in Bristol, UK, working in the areas of Film, Theatre and Television. This website is a showcase for her work, her research into the historical use of make-up and hints and tips on working with cosmetics.

Helen is a graduate of the Univeristy of Bristol Drama Department. Her dissertation was on "The Elizabethan Face", an in depth study of the make-up used during the reign of Queen Elizabeth 1 (1558 - 1603). This involved historical research and practical application of the cosmetics of the period.

Helen has designed and applied make-up for plays including One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, The Real Inspector Hound, Ted Hughes' Tales From Ovid, Revolting Rhymes, One For The Road, Cabaret, The Bald Prima Donna, Two and Panto on Toast, a Pantomime for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Her film credits include the independent films: The Light That Followed, Obsession, an as yet untitled Car Crash short and Shooting Up

She also runs workshops, giving advice for productions, most recently on the make-up and hair of the Restoration period for a touring Shakespeare production of Taming Of The Shrew.
